About Dr. Polahar

Family medicine and Integrative medicine
Dr. Dorothy Polahar is a board-certified physician (DO) with advanced expertise in Integrative, Functional and Musculoskeletal medicine. She specializes in hands-on treatment of back pain, joint dysfunction, postural imbalances, and soft tissue injuries. With a master’s degree in Athletic Training and Sports Medicine and training in Osteopathic Manipulative Therapy (OMT), she combines physical rehabilitation principles with osteopathic techniques to restore movement, reduce pain, and support the body’s natural healing processes. She also integrates acupuncture and functional medicine approaches when indicated, offering a comprehensive, holistic approach to healing.

Dr. Polahar completed her Family Medicine residency at Maine-Dartmouth, where she also pursued a fellowship in Integrative Medicine through the University of Arizona. Her care philosophy expanded through additional training in Traditional Chinese Acupuncture and Functional Medicine, allowing her to treat not only symptoms but the root causes of chronic illness, inflammation, and fatigue.
Prior to joining Restore Balance Integrative Medicine, Dr. Polahar practiced at Inova Steinmetz Integrative and Functional Medicine in Alexandria, VA, where she collaborated with her friend and colleague Dr. Anca Sisu in delivering patient-centered, systems-based care. Their shared vision of restoring health through personalized, whole-person medicine continues in her current practice.
Dr. Polahar partners closely with each patient to develop individualized treatment plans that may include OMT, Functional Medicine testing, acupuncture, nutrition, and lifestyle-based strategies. Her approach blends the structure and logic of Western medicine with the depth and nuance of holistic therapies, helping patients regain function, resilience, and long-term wellness.
